Two Iranian-born Kebab takeaway owners were charged with the murder of 14 year old schoolgirl Charlene Downes who disappeared in 2003. Police searched the Funny Boyz takeaway in Blackpool, but a body was never found. The story led to the Metro Newspaper using the memorable headline "Girl's Body Was Put In Kebabs". |

On 21st Januray 2008 Jacqui Smith (The Home Secretary) was criticised by opposition MP's for admitting that she would not feel safe walking the streets of London after dark. In an attempt to backtrack from the original statement she revealed that she had recently been out in the evening to "Buy a kebab in Peckham". The Daily Mail discovered that the Kebab Shop Jacqui Smith visited was Katie's Kebabs. They interviewed Ender Ginel, the owner of the shop about the visit and found that she was accompanied by a bodyguard at the time. |
